Website content

Who is your target audience?

Before you start creating your website take a few minutes to consider what you are trying to achieve with your website.  Who are you talking to, who is your intended reader?  What do you want to give or get from them?  Are you just informing them or do you want them to do something?  Or, as it would seem reasonable for a Lions club website - a mixture of both.

Planning

Once you have decided in your mind what you want to achieve from your website you need to sit down with pencil and paper and make a rough plan like a family tree. It is always a chore, but will save you time in the long run.

What support is available from District and Multiple District?

Take a few minutes to study the Multiple District website, there is a lot of information you can use to help build your own club's website. You might consider links to the District or MD websites to provide further information such as the Lion's donations so far to help with an international crisis, information on Diabetes Awareness, Medic Alert and so on.  You can copy information to your own website or add a link back to the websites.

Sharing

Do share the workload with other members of your club.  It's surprising how much time it can take creating and updating pages for your website, so if you have a system that allows it, involve your other members, in particular:

Ensure you have a deputy webmaster who can take over when you leave the club. If you don't have anyone with the appropriate skills, you are using the wrong editing system!
