Nepal Earthquake appeals:

nepal-earthquake-hero

On Saturday 25th April an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 occurred with its epicentre less than 50 miles from Kathmandu. It rocked Nepal with devastating force, toppling homes, temples, and historic buildings and it is reported that more than 3,500 people have been killed and every day the death toll is rising. Hundreds of thousands are spending nights outdoors and aftershocks are still being felt. There is also damage reported in Tibet and in India at least 34 deaths have been reported.

In Nepal there are 10 Lions Clubs and there will certainly be some assistance from LCIF, where normally there is a mixture of immediate assistance in the form of emergency grants and longer-term assistance with particular recovery projects. Our Foundation has launched an appeal for funds to assist with the disaster relief.

Our own Multiple District will also be offering help through the MD105 International Disaster Fund, which would be used primarily for safe water equipment in the form of water purification jerry cans.
I do hope your Club will be able to assist with a donation to one or both of the funds referred to above to assist those in terrible need.

HOW CAN YOUR CLUB DONATE?
If your Club wishes to donate to LCIF, please make the cheque payable to ‘LCI District 105D’ and endorsed on the back ‘LCIF Disaster Fund’ (this will be eligible for Melvin Jones Fellowship recognition).
Donations for the Multiple District International Disaster Fund should be made payable to ‘LCI District 105D’ and endorsed on the back ‘MD International Disaster Fund’.

Thanking you once again in anticipation of your help.

Patrick Hamblin, 28th April 2015.
