- Install a reliable Anti Virus
software programme on your computer.
- YOU can get infected, don't assume you
are not using the Internet enough to warrant AV Software. It only takes
one email, or now even directly from the Internet.
- Ensure you update the AV .DAT code regularly.
This is ideally done each time you log onto the Internet, or at LEAST
every 2 weeks.
- If you use Windows XP, ensure
that the Windows Firewall is switch on (default is off)
- Do not open email attachments from
people you don't know. If you must open one, don't do it without first running
an AV check on the attachment.
- Avoid opening emails, whilst you
are still "on-line" - Never open an attachment whilst "on-line".
- Back up your data on a regular
basis
- Remove the Preview window from
Outlook - Outlook Express
